A Tobacco Review Prince Albert Pipe Tobacco

Prince Albert

Let me get this out of the way first:  I do not recommend smoking.  If you smoke quit.  I do not work for any tobacco company or store.  Everyone already knows smoking is bad for you so save those comments for a hub for anti-smokers please.

Now for getting down to business.  Prince Albert has been around for somewhere near a hundred years now.  It is considered a drug store tobacco because at one time it was sold in drug stores, (and because of the cheap price).  It is a good rich burley that has no bite to it unless you huff and puff like a freight train.  Many people who are trying to get away from cigarette smoking to something a little less dangerous often choose Prince Albert.  It is mild and the smoke smells mostly like cigarette tobacco.  It is a consistent tobacco which means  you don't have to worry about the taste or aroma changing from pouch to pouch.

Are there better burley tobaccos out there?  Of course there are.  But considering the very cheap price it's worth your money.  It blends well with many other tobaccos, (if you are into blending your own), and stands well on it's own two feet.

Like with any new tobacco you are going to try, start it in a corncob pipe.  They are cheap and if it turns out you don't like it then you didn't add any strange flavors to your regular pipe.  Not that there's no reason to have a corncob pipe as your everyday pipe.

Locally I can buy this in 1 1/2 oz pouches for under three bucks.  It also comes in 14 ounce cans.  Try a pouch first.  If you find that you like it then buy the cans and cellar it away in mason jars.  If you find you don't care for strait burley's then cellar it away and use it for blending later.  Either way it's hard to go wrong with Prince Albert.

It's hard for me to give a drug store brand five stars but considering the price of the upper class burley's I have to with this one.

5 stars *****

Very nice article. I am smoking a pipe since 1965. The way I figure it, I must belong to the Million Ton Club (if one exists for pipe smokers) or something. You will reach a point in smoking, where you will grow disgusted with cigarette chemical witch's brew additives and desire to go from addiction to hobby/recreational. The most, pipe tobaccos have added to them are, a touch of glycerin for shelf life in a store, maybe a touch of food grade flavorings of either toppings or casings. A quantity of Prince Albert in your pipe bowl, and barely get a light or "smoke on". Relax, enjoy, pure tobacco flavor. What is it precisely? Coffee, which is most compatable to tobacco flavor, and a touch of anise. I have reviewed Prince Albert, elsewhere, and will state once more, both of my Grandfathers smoked Prince Albert Pipe Tobacco. My grandchildren know that when they can smell the aromatics, I am not far to be found. As an after thought, 91 and 94 respectively were their ages, my Grandfathers, that is. Prince Albert, is my bedrock, and that, is for certain. Open the pouch and let the tobacco breath. Prince Albert becomes much nicer as a dry product, and few other pipe tobaccos can stand up to that test. No matter what type of pipe you smoke, you will certainly not go wrong with this choice of pipe smoking mixture. In fact, at this point in Prince Albert's career, it's an American tradition, a part of our heritage. I believe, that your Grandfathers would agree with me.
